*New Class* Book Proposal 101: Stop Dreading It and Start Writing It
📚Join me virtually on May 22nd
I’m Tawny, author of Dry Humping: A Guide to Dating, Relating, and Hooking Up Without the Booze, co-host of the Recovery Rocks podcast, and co-founder of the vinegar-based botanical beverage, (parentheses)
I’m so excited to announce that I’m teaching a virtual, two-hour seminar about book proposals on May 22nd at 7 EST!
Get your book idea out of your head and (finally!) onto the page. This course will help you understand what exactly a book proposal is and how to actually enjoy writing your own.
Whether you're pitching a non-fiction book or a non-fiction card deck, Book Proposal 101: Stop Dreading It and Start Writing It will help you feel empowered by the proposal process rather than overwhelmed.
OK, you might still feel overwhelmed, but you can totally do this!
Students will leave this course knowing the elements of a book proposal with a focus on:
Comp Titles Identification: Learn how to research and articulate compelling comparative titles that highlight the unique value and positioning of your book in the marketplace.
Author Bio and Platform Building: Learn how to craft a persuasive author bio that showcases your credentials, experiences, and the platform from which you'll promote your book.
Chapter Outline Creation: Learn how to develop a detailed chapter outline that provides a clear roadmap of your book's structure and content, ensuring you have a solid foundation to build upon.
Some Testimonials:
“The publishing world is a minefield, and Tawny is a Bloodhound. Over the past decade, she's learned how to navigate this clusterfuck of this industry, cutting through the BS, so you can actually get published and your voice heard.” -
Author of Boyslut, A Memoir and Manifesto“When it comes to non-fiction, a big part of an agent’s job is wrangling a book proposal together with their author. Digging into the why of the project, discussing platform, and the like. It only benefits you to be more prepared. The more you have in there, the better. When Tawny’s proposal arrived in my agent inbox and I opened it, it was like that scene in Pulp Fiction when they open the briefcase and all golden light shines out. It was perfect. And I called her the same day asking to work on the project. You’ll learn a lot from her, absolutely.” - Eric Smith, YA author (and my agent who sold Dry Humping!)
Bonus Resource
My agent, Eric, also wrote this incredible breakdown of why my book proposal stood out and why he offered to sign me within 24 hours of reading it.
I’ll share more about my book proposal writing experience as we lead up to this course. Until then, I’d love to hear from *you.*
What questions do you have about book proposals and the publishing process? There are no “stupid” questions. Each question you ask helps me develop this course. If you’re curious about something, other folks are, too.
Happy Humping,
Tawny
Very interested in your course, Tawny! Feel like my memoir writing keeps changing focus- some days I want to write about navigating recovery as a parent, sometimes I switch to the interesting nuances of being a stay-at-home Dad. Then it just becomes overwhelming, and the thought of pitching what I have to anyone/ anywhere is exhausting.
Also wanted to share that I listened in you your podcasts over the last year/ two when you were working through Dry Humping. It was super exciting to be at a small bookstore, when I was out of town in Richmond, VA, and find your book on the shelf! Late congratulations:)
