For sure!! I grew up in a Mormon family and stayed in the faith for three decades before leaving. It was such a mismatch for my personal values and I couldn't stop the mental gymnastics it took to stay in. Changing your mind can be life changing. Not always pretty but life on the other side is great.
Thank you for sharing this! I so appreciate how that decision to change your mind brought you to your current line of incredibly important work. So glad our paths crossed digitally as I'm currently rediscovering what pleasure means to me.
My pleasure Tawny! I'm so glad that you saw the through line in my experience of how great pain can lead to great purpose. I'm so glad to connect as well! My boyfriend has been in recovery for 5 years so this topic of sobriety is near and dear to me too.
I really love this. I like how you casually mention these huge changes. I am a lover of change. I used to say "I don't trust people who don't drink alcohol" and now I'm sober and write about it everyday. I also joined an MLM and thought I was helping my friends by selling them things they didn't need or want. So, I get it and I love that you normalize this!
Loved this piece! It's a breath of fresh air when someone shares about changing their mind about big things, in ways that make the mind-changing of it all a "nbd" arena. One thing I've changed my mind about, besides pretty much all that you listed down to the audiobooks, was that international media had nothing to offer me, and that going back to my country of origin wouldn't do anything for me.
Exploring an ancestral based witchy pagan practice in my past opened my eyes to the value of seeing things of other cultures, that I really could connect by visiting Vietnam if I ever decided to. I've changed my mind on the spiritual practice, but the lessons learned are ones I still carry gratefully!
